Cotswold Living
Local Authorities
The Cotswolds is controlled by several layers of local government; county, district and parish; each having a role in the way the people of the Cotswolds receive the services provided by the United Kingdom Government. The authorities are elected by the Cotswolds people every four years, using the same democratic process which elects the Members of Parliament. Each of the authorities has responsibility for finance, education, social services, tourism, highways, housing and the community in general. Each level of the council sets the amount of local government taxes which each householder has to pay in return for the services that each council supply, obviously these will vary throughout the area and the topic is always a source of debate and outcry during the early parts of each year.
