Great Witcombe Roman Villa

On the slopes of the Cotswold escarpment lies the remains of a Roman villa from the 3rd century AD.

The villa is the centre of a large nobleman's country estate not far from the city of Glevum, modern day Gloucester and the second largest town in Roman Britain, Corinium, now Cirencester.

The villa was extensively modernised in the late 4th century AD and the complex was finally abandoned in the 5th century AD. The cover mosaics can be seen on certain days of the year.
